Usher Love, the charitable arm of Gold Coast based Usher Group, have partnered with Australian Surf Legend Wayne Rabbit Bartholomew to launch a unique hybrid club surf contest.
The inaugural Usher Cup, hosted by Snapper Rocks Surfriders Club, will be held the first two days at Duranbah, and surf permitting, Finals Day will be at Snapper Rocks on Sunday January 31, 2021.
This exciting three-day surfing event showcasing amateur surfers and emerging pros from 21 board riders’ clubs stretching from Coffs Harbour to Noosa sets a new standard for grass roots contests, with equal prize money for male and female competitors, with competing board riding clubs to be awarded prizemoney based on combined male and female individual placings in their respective divisions.
For nearly 20 years, Usher Love, in association with the Usher Group, has been committed to having a positive influence and making a difference within the communities in which they operate.
Through Managing Director, Theodore Vairaktaris, Usher Group is also committed to fostering emerging talent, which led to the establishment of the Usher Cup, a contest aimed at assisting in the development of grass roots surfing.
What is even more remarkable is the level of support for the event from the Trades, Painting and Construction Industries, here on the Gold Coast and nationally.
When Theodore released the prospectus for potential sponsors, the industry reacted overwhelmingly with over $100,000 in sponsorship raised for the event in a matter of hours. To-date, the event has attracted over $150,000 in sponsorship with all partners, incredibly, all new to surf contest sponsorship.
Theodore Vairaktaris says, “I am overwhelmed from the support of the construction industry towards Usher’s initiatives.”
“The Usher Love vehicle has been supporting the community for 19 years and I am so passionate about growing it beyond belief, Having the sponsorship sold out in less than three hours is a true testimony that the industry believes our vision and stands with our passion for supporting grass roots clubs and charities.” He adds.
The Usher Cup is dedicated to giving amateur surfers the exposure to take their skills to the next level, whether that be within their club or the next step to the professional ranks. In addition to individual prizes, the competing board riding clubs will be awarded a prize based on the top club male and female competitor scores.
Contest Director, Wayne ‘Rabbit’ Bartholomew is humbled by the support of such as important event. “The Usher Cup has evolved from a seeded thought to a grass roots hybrid club/individual event with a dynamic community-based and charity focus.”
He adds “The instantaneous support from the Paint and Construction industry, which is brand new sponsor support for surfing, has astounded me and truly is an endorsement of Usher Groups standing in that industry and the community. I am super stoked to be associated with the Usher Cup, it’s going to be a blast.”
Founded in 2001, Gold Coast Business of the Year, Usher Group is a leading national trade services provider to the construction and commercial sector. Managing Director, Theodore Vairaktaris has always provided mentorship, guidance and support to youth on the Gold Coast and the Usher Cup is a remarkable extension of this support.
The Usher Cup will also support the Usher Love charities; The Perry Cross Foundation, Youth Insearch, Camp Quality and Starlight Foundation.
